For a while now I’ve been exploring a way to build a community with my blog. I love writing and blogging, but something I feel it is lacking is a community in which I can have an open dialogue with others on bigger subjects like chronic pain/illness and depression/anxiety, to lighter subjects like books/movies/tv and food, to then everything in-between.
I didn’t start blogging because I wanted to work with brands or make money from it (which is good since I don’t do either at the moment), but because I wanted an outlet for my creativity and to share experiences and things that I am passionate about, and connect with people.
I’ve connected with some kind people through blogging, but there does feel like there is a disconnect with only responding in comments, or in an email.
I am an introvert through and through, and it can be difficult finding friends as an introverted adult. I also have chronic pain, and it can be difficult to find people that understand what it’s like to have chronic pain and how much it can affect your social life. These two parts of who I am are not key ingredients in making strong friendships.
So here I am finally ready to get this thing going.
I am currently working on creating a community chat through Discord. This will be a place that people can join and become members and chat with each other in one place on different subjects or just in a general chat.
This is where you come in!
I want this community chat to be successful. I want people (myself included) to make friends and feel accepted, and discuss things they love, and just have an overall positive place to go. I want people to join in this and be engaged.
Is this something that sounds like you would enjoy and want to join and if so, what sort of topics would you enjoy having in a community chat?
I don’t want this to only feel like a support group, I want people to be able to talk about their health and/or feelings, but also be able to chat about books, movies or whatever else because that’s the kind of community I am looking for.
Let me know your thoughts and suggestions in the comments. Or if you want to share privately, you can email me at email@example.com
